Benelli feels smoother cycling out of the box. Both are reliable and as far as finish goes you can clean the Mossberg if it starts to rust. I use both for upland and I think the Benelli feels slightly lighter or at least less front heavy. Said it many times; I own both a Mossberg 500 and a 870 and the 870 is a much better gun. Few things have been mentioned, like the position of the safety on the 500 is kind of bad. Where I really notice the difference though is the feel of the gun. The 870 feels solid all the way around, the Mossberg is less than solid feeling. Super Nova takes 3 1/2" shells, the 590 only goes to 3". The SV has long barrels, the 590 only takes shorter barrels. So if you wanted to hammer long range birds, the SV has the edge. It also has a smoother action. However, the 590 is built like a tank and has a much better safety for left hand use.
